12/16/04 - starstarstarstarstar   Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)

I saw this movie for the second time on DVD at home (first time was at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse) with Jeromy and Rob. I'm not sure if it was the company, the comfort, or the lack of sleep, but this movie was funnier than the first time. The hysterical little nuances between the characters make the movie, and knowing that Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller are married in real life make it even funnier when she has to act disgusted by him or he has to flirt with her. Vince Vaughn has quickly become one of my favorite actors, not only because he's hot, but because of his versitility in acting and his laid back style. Because this movie is lighthearted and fun, there's nothing bad I can say about it. Loved it. [Kimmie]

Restaurants/Bars

12/16/04 - starstarstarstarstar   Brick's Pizza 4809 N 1st Street, Arlington, VA 22203 703-243-6600

I'm always searching for that perfect pizza place. When Brick's menu fell out of the circular, we decided to give it a try. The guys love their steak and cheese sub, and I like their special "Arlington" pizza - lots of veggies. The dough tastes fresh, and the sauce doesn't overwhelm the rest of the pizza. They are quick to deliver and always friendly. The biggest reason I gave only three stars is because of the lack of choice in their menu. As a recent poultry eater, there are only a few options as far as subs are concerned. I'm not about to order a turkey and cheese sub when I can make one from home, and the other options don't really appeal to me. So I end up getting the same thing whenever we order from them. The Arlington. Always yummy, but I would like to try something else. Prices are average to a bit pricey. If you want a plain pizza, go somewhere else and get it for cheap. -- The link above is for the menu from a local delivery service, not their actual website. [Kimmie]

12/16/04 - starstarstarstarstar   Macaroni Grill 671 N. Glebe Rd #1258, Arlington, VA 22203 703-248-0000

Jeromy and I went to the Macaroni Grill in the Ballston Mall for my birthday dinner. Our waitress was so nice and friendly, and eager to please. We sat near the back - it was quieter, but we were near the kitchen and I could smell "fried" (you know that smell). I ordered the Grilled Halibut served on Parmesan Basil Risotto, and Jeromy got a "Make your own" pasta dish. Both came out very quickly. My dish was good - the fish was perfectly cooked and the risotto, while a bit salty for my taste, was SO delicious. Jeromy's concoction was yummy as well - grilled chicken, mushrooms, black olives, roasted garlic, and shell pasta in a creamy garlic sauce. I had a glass of their cheap Pinot Grigio (Placido) and Jeromy had the house Chianti, which was surprisingly good. They have this thing with the house wine where they leave a bottle at the table, pour the first glass, and then leave you to pour your own and tell them how many glasses you've had. Dangerous, but a great idea! We skipped dessert because we were too stuffed from our meals, but don't worry, we got birthday cake from Giant on the way home. :o) [Kimmie]
